Some people are receiving fake emails from the carabinieri warning them to be investigated, but this is an online scam that you need to be careful of: here’s what you need to know.
The mailboxes of millions of people are regularly filled and jammed with unwanted mail. Most of these are advertising offers, spam, and generally harmless, if annoying, junk mail. But not everyone knows that there is a risk that you can also be the victim of a scam designed to deceive the unfortunate.
The phishing emails are attempts by scammers to trick you into providing your personal data. These can include your passwords, credit card numbers and / or bank account numbers. Unfortunately none of us are immune and therefore you too may have received an email or you will be able to receive it that seems truthful, but it is not.
While many are attentive to scam messages arriving on Whatsapp, not everyone knows that even your e-mail address is subject to traps. One of the scams that are involving more people are false mail which apparently seem to come from carabinieri, but is not so. Let’s see in detail what it consists of and how to recognize them immediately.
False mail from the carabinieri: the new online scam
The online scams unfortunately they are on the agenda and this is nothing new. In recent times, the track of false e-mails sent from an address that is apparently attributable to the State Police has been gaining ground more and more, so much so that the wording reads: “Carabinieri”. This is an extortion attempt, a new campaign of phishing.
This is carried out using the email addresses or message on social networks that show, in fact, the logo of the State Police. In the most detailed cases, they are also signed by the top executives of the law enforcement agencies. In essence, the false message requires the person to reply to the email to obtain information on what concerns achild pornography investigation in which the victim would be involved.
The purpose is precisely to cause agitation and panic in the victim who would find himself contacting the scammers by replying to the email. In this case he would expose himself in a notable way, so much so as to unconsciously disclose his own personal data. The alert was given by both the State Police and the Carabinieri Command. In which they warned all people to trash these phishing messages and contact the nearest station.
In these cases, as in all online scams and phishing messages, you should never open the message or any attachments, reply to, or send identity documents. We must trash and contact the competent authorities and wait for the investigations to take their course.
