Are you a Disney fan with a passion for retro games? Good news: House of Mouse has announced a new Disney Classic Games Collection for PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
Below, we’ve got a breakdown of everything you need to know about this exciting new collection from publisher Nighthawk Interactive.
What games are included?
Part of what makes this collection so special is that you get multiple versions of some great games. The full list of games is as follows:
- Disney The Jungle Book: SNES, Game Boy, Sega Genesis
- Disney The Lion King – Japanese version: Sega Genesis
- Disney The Lion King: SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Sega Genesis
- Aladdin from Disney: SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Sega Genesis
- Disney’s Aladdin – Final Cut: Sega Genesis
- Disney’s Aladdin – Demo Version: Sega Genesis
- Disney’s Aladdin – Japanese version: Sega Genesis
What are the different versions?
Part of what makes this collection so special is that you get many different versions of certain games. Some of these are simply ports of the base game with minor tweaks. For example, the Game Boy version of The Lion King works as a scaled down version of the SNES version.
But the most exciting are probably the different versions of Aladdin. First of all, you can play both SNES and Genesis versions, so 16-bit players from both sides of the console wars will be happy. Second, you get more versions of the fan-favorite Genesis version.
Final Cut of Aladdin is the enhanced Genesis port that arrived on PC and consoles in 2019. It features new areas to explore, new visual effects, new boss models to make fighting more challenging and some other quality of life improvements. You can also play the original demo of the game and even try the Japanese version!
Special features
Of course, it is convenient to play these classic games on a modern TV. But beyond that, there are many handy special features for you to enjoy:
- 1080p graphics
- Adjustable edges and proportions
- Filter options to make the game look like on a CRT TV
- Soundtracks
- Video interviews with developers, conceptual images and other museum features
- The ability to rewind (no longer getting stuck at level two of The Lion King)
- You can watch full game playthroughs, fast-forward or rewind, and dive in to play whenever you want
- Retail versions will include one of four instruction manuals in the retro style of the original games.
While some of these games have already seen modern releases, this is clearly “a whole new world” for fans of Disney and retro gaming and will launch on November 9th.
