There is an airport that identifies people regardless of identity documents. Let’s find out where it is and what it requires.
The traveler who flies by plane must collect documents to board the aircraft without problems unless he is in a specific state-of-the-art Italian airport.
To travel within the national territory you need an identity card, passport or driving license. The identity card is also sufficient in countries adhering to the Schengen agreements as long as it is valid for travel abroad and has a different document recognized by the destination country. In EU countries that have not signed the agreements, however, a passport is required as in countries outside the European Union (unless there are bilateral agreements). The passenger must also check at the Embassy or Consulate of the country of arrival or transit whether possession of an entry visa is required.
At Linate, however, no documents are needed to board, a facial recognition system has been introduced which allows access to the gates without showing any documentation. This is a new cutting-edge technology developed by Thales together with Sea. Linate has thus become the first European airport to implement a biometric security system.
Facial recognition at Linate, no documents needed
Face Boarding allows travelers to simply pass through security and access the boarding gate showing his face. No searching for documents in your suitcase or bag to fly with Ita Airwais and Sas – the first airline to have adopted the innovative biometric system. Soon all companies operating at Linate airport will have Face Boarding available.
How does this new technology work? Passengers will have to register their identity document at the cloisters at the airport or via an application to download onto their smartphone starting next month. Then they will have to register their face. Once the procedure is completed, they will be able to access the security checks and the boarding gate by showing their face to the biometric recognition system.
Photos of the inauguration of the Face Boarding service were posted on social media. An event that ended inside the new Leonardo Executive Lounge, completely renovated and expanded upon arrival to a total of 314 m2. Now you can enjoy a splendid view of the Linate aircraft apron. Those who are close to leaving will know that if they pass through Linate airport they will be able to personally test the new facial recognition technology.
