For a Call of Duty faithful, Black Ops 4’s multiplayer mode is a creative, if somewhat messy extension of the series that fans have come to love.
Black Ops has always been unique in terms of storylines and gameplay approach, granting futuristic weapons and abilities that go beyond the pseudo-realistic realm of other Call of Duty games.
Analyzing the game in this context, it’s hard not to wonder if Treyarch, its creator, pushed his drive for constant innovation too far in Black Ops 4 Multiplayer. At first, the most obvious deviation from the Call of Duty model is that this is the first game in franchise history not to have a traditional single-player campaign, a decision supported at least in part by data showing that players were losing. interest in campaigns in favor of multiplayer modes.
Specialists
There is, however, a nod to the countryside of the past. Black Ops 4 Multiplayer introduces us to a disorganized group of Specialists, some of whom we first met in Black Ops 3, and offers their background through gameplay tutorials coupled with short cutscenes. Each of these Specialists has unique abilities to assist them in combat, such as the Firebreak Purifier, a powerful flamethrower, and Nomad’s Unit K-9, a dog that hunts down enemies to attack them. In addition to skills, each specialist comes armed with equipment that recharges multiple times over the course of a match, such as Ruin’s Grapple that allows them to move quickly across the map.
Black Ops 4 allows players to customize their gear using the Pick Ten system of the precursor games, allowing them to choose the right weapon accessories, perks and wildcards to provide tactical perks.
