Moving from other Fallout games to 2015’s Fallout 4 definitely makes for a weird experience. The first rough but serious games eventually lead to modern reinvention.
Fallout has always been between change and tradition. Fallout 4 deviates from the expectations of the series in significant but fascinating ways. At the end of the day, though, is it worth your time?
History
Fallout 4 makes its purpose clear from the word go with its unorthodox choice of premise. The player begins by choosing between a female law graduate or a male combat veteran. Either way, you are a resident of the United States prior to the infamous nuclear strikes of 2077.
Your chosen character and his spouse, the unselected character, flee to a nearby vault. With their newborn son in tow and nuclear armageddon at their heels, they enter a cryogenic sleep.
Following a brutal accident involving said spouse, you wake up and start hunting down your character’s son in the future warped version of Massachusetts.
