History
Set in World War II, you play special forces expert Karl Fairburne, making his way through Italy. He fight alongside the Italian resistant fighters and gain their trust. Finally, you must stop the development of a new super weapon designed by the Nazis, a weapon capable of devastating allied forces if it is deployed.
But if you come to Sniper Elite 4 for a great narrative, chances are you will be disappointed. Just like in previous games in the series, this title doesn’t put much emphasis on its history. Consequently, the storyline isn’t that important to the overall experience. The story there is mainly serves as a framing device to take you to different places and advance the campaign. Therefore, it is quite difficult to be truly involved in everything that happens in the plot.
Characters and maps
The characters are all pretty bland, to the extent that you’ll never want to explore their personalities or investigate what drives them in this fight. Even if you wanted to, you’d be out of luck as Sniper Elite 4 doesn’t contain character development. Also, the dialogue is so cliché that it cannot be taken seriously.
Fortunately, the campaign itself doesn’t disappoint. The maps in each level are huge and filled to the brim with collectibles, side quests and encounters that make exploring the world a real pleasure. Most importantly, having so many things inside maps prevents environments from looking stale or barren. They look more like a living, breathing world.
