Visual

One of the most distinguishing features of the Sniper Elite series has always been the kill cameras that come when you perform certain moves. These make a comeback in Sniper Elite 4 and show up a little more frequently now that they can be activated via stealth kills and the signature long-range sniper shots.

You can be sure they look gorgeous and creepy like never before. Watching your enemy’s bones splinter as the bullet you fired hits a skull is particularly satisfying despite the creepy nature. This title somehow manages to balance that sense of exaggerated violence with the gratification of pulling out a great shot so that things don’t seem too macabre.

Audio

Beyond the kill cameras, the Sniper Elite 4 does a good, if not exceptional, job from a presentation standpoint. The sound effects and voice acting are both strong. The musical score does just enough to keep the game going and is varied enough so that it never gets repetitive. However, you are unlikely to stray from this game and will want to check out the soundtrack on its merits.

Pictures make up for any shortcomings with audio. Everything looks detailed and even with the huge size of the environments, the viewing distances allow you to see everything on the screen quite well.

Final verdict

In short, Sniper Elite 4 is a fun third-person shooter that has taken everything learned from the previous three titles to create a solid experience. The gameplay improvements work well and the kill cams are more creepy than ever. There are some issues in terms of screen tearing and graphics issues, but even the botched narrative doesn’t diminish the experience of being able to freely travel through each map as you hunt down your targets.
