At first, the name Z1 Battle Royale may not ring any bells. What is this game anyway?
Technically, it’s a new name and some updates for a game you may already know: H1Z1. And as the new name suggests, this is a “battle royale” style game that is currently all the rage.
However, that leads to a natural question: is this game worth playing instead of something like Fortnite? And this re-branding effort hides a game that’s secretly a stinker?
All these questions and more are answered in this review!
What has changed?
As noted above, this game has had many names. First, it was H1Z1. Later, it was H1Z1: King of the Hill, so named for one of its most beloved modes. The naming then reverted to the simpler H1Z1 before being renamed Z1 Battle Royale.
The obvious question here is “what has actually changed?” And some of the answers may surprise you!
For example, some of the additions are just ways the developer is trying to keep up with the Battle Royale gaming competition. This includes a healthy buildup of skins and of course loot. And some new modes have also been added ranging from missions you take on in-game to daily and weekly challenges for hardcore gamers to chase.
Some of the other changes, however, represent play deliberately returning to form. For example, the graphics and lighting of this “new” game are more similar to when it first came out.
Many weapon changes have been undone and you no longer have those handy “points of interest” on a map (other than being told where the safe zone is to survive the intrusive gas).
