Today, “The Big N” hosted an epic Nintendo Direct showcase for E3 2021. Here’s our breakdown of every major announcement in case you missed the stream (or just want to continue the hype).
Important news about Zelda
The biggest news was about the Legend of Zelda franchise. On this front, Nintendo has had several major announcements.
First, Nintendo has announced two different Breath of the Wild themed DLC sets for Hyrule Guardians, with the first set (called Pulse of the Ancients) due out on June 18th. Next, they announced a special Zelda Game and Watch with the first three Zelda Games on it and a Zelda mini-game.
We also have information on Skyward Sword’s Switch port. But the biggest reveal was the new Breath of the Wild 2 footage. Sadly, we won’t see this killer title until 2022.
Advance Wars returns
Longtime Nintendo fans may remember Advance Wars games for (what else?) The Game Boy Advance. Now, Switch will receive a title called Advance Wars: Re-Boot Camp which includes the first two Advance Wars games.
Fun ports and DLC for Switch
The Switch continues to dominate when it comes to unexpected ports and DLCs. It looks like Nintendo’s console will get Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 as well as Strange Brigade. And that’s in addition to other ports announced today which include Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Worms Rumble, Astria Ascending, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and Two Points Campus.
If you enjoy playing Doom: Eternal on Switch, beware of the upcoming Ancient Gods DLC.
Danganronpa arrives at the Switch
It is very difficult to describe Danganronpa, which is basically a drug detective game. But if you’re into that sort of thing, Switch will be getting all three games in the form of a new title: Danganronpa Decadence.
Fatal Frame: The Maiden of Black Water announced
Nintendo hasn’t historically been known for scary games. But if you’re into a good scare, check out Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water when it comes out in late 2021 for the Switch. The game was originally released on Wii U in 2014.
Mario, Wario and the surprise return of an old franchise
If you’re a fan of Mario, Wario, or both, this was a great Nintendo Direct. We have a release date for Mario Party Superstars: October 29th. And we also took a closer look at the different Mario Golf Super Rush modes and another taste of the recent Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.
Mario’s old foe, Wario, returns in Warioware: Get It Together! But if you want to become one of Mario’s enemies, you can always take control of Kazuya Mishima, the Tekken fighter who will be the latest addition to the Smash Bros. roster.
In terms of exclusive Nintendo titles, perhaps the most surprising announcement is the arrival of Cruis’n Blast on the Switch. This is an attempt to bring the classic Cruis’n USA franchise into the 21st century.
More Metroid
Metroid fans have received two good pieces of news. The first is that the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4 is still in development. But Nintendo also announced Metroid Dread, complete with a teaser showing scary robots chasing Samus and an October 8th release date.
All those remasters
Somewhere along the way, Switch has become the perfect home for remastering your favorite games. Today Nintendo announced the remasters of Super Monkey Ball (Banana Mania will be released on October 5th) and Life is Strange (the Remastered Collection will be released later this year). Of course, Life Is Strange fans will always want to check out True Colors, coming to Switch on September 10th.
All the rest
Other major announcements included Just Dance 2022 (coming November 4) and Shin Megami Tensai V (a killer RPG). We also took a new look at Monster Hunter Stories 2.
