Asus has been the true pioneer of the foldable screen laptop thus far, with its Zenbook Fold line, but presumably it should have some serious competition in the future.
According to a report from Korea, Apple is working on a laptop with a foldable screen. The company is apparently in talks with vendors to launch a MacBook with a foldable screen. This device would catalyze the now sluggish display market, should it come to fruition.

It would be released in 2026, after a presentation in 2025. Korean display makers like Samsung Display and LG Display have recently invested heavily in OLED panels for laptops, now that the smartphone market is practically saturated. Both companies are currently “coordinating development and manufacturing plans for foldable OLED panels for laptops” as the nascent market for them grows.
An order from Apple would surely make a huge dent in this still small market. According to the report’s source, larger displays are set to be more profitable for panel makers, even though large pixel densities are more difficult to achieve the larger they are. However, foldable laptop displays are more profitable than foldable smartphone displays, so this will obviously be a huge opportunity for display makers to make some extra cash in the near future.
