Every year Fortune compiles a list of the world’s most admirable companies, and Apple has taken the top spot for 17 consecutive years. The full list includes 1,500 companies, 1,000 of which are based in the United States and 500 of which are non-US companies. All companies have at least $10 billion in revenue.
Of all 1,500 companies, Fortune filtered out only the top earners and narrowed the list to 680. About 3,700 executives, directors and analysts were then asked to rate each company on the list in various categories: value of investment, management quality, social responsibility. , etc.
Apple once again tops the charts with the most points in terms of social responsibility, financial strength, innovation and global competitiveness. The Cupertino-based tech giant is followed by Microsoft and Amazon. The former rose to second place this year with a top spot in computer software, while Amazon fell one place but still scored highly in Internet services and retail.
