Asus is moving away from enabling easy unlocking of its phones. According to several users who contacted tech support, unlocking bootloader is disabled on Zenfone 9 and will not work at all on Zenfone 10.
Unlocking the bootloader allows enthusiasts to downgrade existing software or install various third-party solutions. Asus was one of the companies to promote this action, but it appears that it is now discontinuing its support.
We have yet to receive any official information on the matter, which may shed some light on why the company has changed its stance.
Asus had previously confirmed that it would update the tool until at least the third quarter of 2023, when the Zenfone 10 will be available for free on the market. While some users were unhappy, others reported that Telegram’s support team knew nothing about this issue.
The discrepancy in responses raises questions like what kind of information is provided to different support teams and which has the correct information.
