Phantom, Tecno’s premium sub-brand, is quite young but very ambitious: It’s already gearing up to launch its first foldable phone at this year’s MWC (which kicks off later this month). The device, dubbed the Tecno Phantom V Fold, has been leaked multiple times, including on video.
Now an insider speaks GizChina added some insight into what we saw in those leaks. Phantom (and Tecno in general) like to develop things in house and that includes the hinge on the foldout.
The Phantom V Fold has a “reverse snap structure”, a design that will improve the structural stability of the phone. This is further enhanced by the use of aerospace grade materials which are both strong and lightweight.
The leakster also provided an official-looking image. You can almost make out three lenses on the circular camera island, but apparently these are just part of a 5-lens setup (presumably including two selfie cameras). The focal lengths of those lenses and the sensors behind them are still unknown.

Tecno itself has already confirmed that the Phantom V Fold will be powered by the Dimension 9000+, an enhanced version of the 9000 (+5% CPU, +10% GPU). This chip has recently been used on another foldable, the Oppo Find N2 Flip clamshell.
PS. a month ago we shared a concept video of the Phantom V Vision, a phone that would combine folding action with a sliding mechanism for an even bigger internal screen. The V Fold only does the folding part. For now it’s not clear if the V Vision will ever be transformed into a real product, but we could find out more at Tecno’s event at the MWC.
