A trademark list filed by Samsung with the Korean Intellectual Property Rights Information Service reveals new technology coming to future Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip devices. Considering the timing of the listing, it’s probably safe to assume that the Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 arriving this August will use so-called “Ironflex” technology.
While there’s no description of the technology itself, the listing mentions a “foldable OLED display panel,” which is not limited to smartphones but also tablets, laptops, and smart wearables. So it is safe to assume that these are foldable screens.
And judging by the Ironflex nickname, it probably has something to do with the zipper and its durability. Many users are still reluctant to jump on the foldable bandwagon due to durability concerns, so it looks like Samsung is addressing the issue with some new technology and a catchy new marketing name. We have yet to see what it is.
