Samsung launched the AI-focused Galaxy S24 series yesterday, and much of the presentation was taken up with camera features. Many of these features are now available directly through social networking apps: this means you don’t have to take a photo with the Samsung camera app, then go to Instagram and pull it out of the gallery, you can simply use the Instagram camera.
It works not only with Instagram, Samsung has collaborated with WhatsApp, TikTok and Snapchat to enable advanced image processing on the S24 series. This continues the work started with the S22 series when computational photography was enabled in social networking apps.
The new Super HDR brings additional detail in highlights and shadows and (thanks to the new fast chipsets) offers an accurate preview before you even press the shutter button.
Galaxy S24 phones can take HDR photos for Instagram
The Galaxy S24 series is the first to have HDR-enabled photos on Instagram. Nightography and improved electronic image stabilization are also available for third-party apps.
For Instagram specifically, you’ll be able to create stories from your photos on the go. However, some specific AI-powered tools will remain available only through the native camera app (generative editing, instant slow motion, and edit suggestion).
You can check out some early camera samples of the Galaxy S24 Ultra and read the hands-on review of the new flagship trio for more details. We also have a table with the S24 Ultra’s camera specs if you’re curious about sensor sizes, focal lengths, and so on.
