Honor is organizing a big two-day event in China, which culminated today with the announcement of its new foldable flagship: the Honor Magic Vs. It is thinner and lighter than its predecessor, and the company has revealed that the weight reduction comes from a completely new sophisticated hinge design, which allows the phone to close without gaps.
The Magic Vs comes with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which may not be Qualcomm’s latest, but is still a fairly capable flagship chipset. The phone has 12/256GB and 12/512GB storage options, as well as a new, more affordable variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
A big screen requires more tools to operate with, and Honor has announced that this foldable will work with a newly introduced stylus called the Magic Pen, which will connect to the foldable via Bluetooth.
The foldable 7.9-inch OLED screen inside has a resolution of 2272×1984 pixels, 90Hz refresh rate, and brightness up to 800 nits. At least on paper, it looks like the screen is the same as the original Magic V.
The 6.45-inch external OLED has a tall aspect and a resolution of 2560×1080 pixels, but a refresh rate of 120Hz and HDR10+ support. Both panels are 10-bit, meaning they have over 1 billion colors.
Honor has revealed that the folding panel will be virtually wrinkle-free, as the new hinge is “carefully crafted with one-piece machining technology.” Instead of having 92 elements, there are now only 4 while maintaining durability and robustness. The zipper has been tested at Honor Labs to withstand over 400,000 folds, which is more than ten years of use, with 100 folds per day.
George Zhao, CEO of Honor
The Honor Magic Vs offers a revamped triple-camera setup, with a 54MP Sony IMX800 main sensor behind an F/1.9 lens, a combination we’ve seen on the Honor 70 Pro series. also as a macro lens, as well as an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

This foldable carries a 5,000mAh battery with 66W fast charging which is expected to recharge the battery from 0 to 100% in 46 minutes. The phone is running the newly announced MagicOS 7.0, but it’s on Android 12.
