New market research in China shows that Huawei is currently selling the most foldable smartphones in the country, with more than 50% market share in the first half of this year. And this even without 5G connectivity due to the sanctions imposed on Huawei. There are rumors that the company is planning a 5G-enabled version of its brand new Huawei Mate X3, but these are unconfirmed and certainly not reflected in the numbers.
Either way, securing the top spot in this market segment in China is pretty impressive because there are more rivals to contend with. While Western markets have a limited choice of foldable devices outside of Samsung, the Chinese market has plenty of options from vivo, Honor, Oppo, Xiaomi.
After Huawei, Oppo takes second place, closely followed by Samsung, while vivo, Honor, Xiaomi and Motorola complete the rankings in that order.
The report also shows solid 72% year-on-year growth of the foldable device segment in the country, a trend that is likely to continue for quite some time as foldable device technology improves.
