Last month Huawei unveiled the MateBook D 16 and MateBook 16s with 12th generation Intel processors. It was just for China, but Huawei plans to sell those two in Europe as well.

The two laptops were shown at an event in Istanbul, Turkey. They were joined by the foldable flagship Huawei Mate Xs 2, the newly announced phone Huawei nova Y90 and the Y70 (which was previously unveiled). The 10.3 “e-ink tablet, Huawei MatePad Paper, was also presented in demo (if that sounds interesting, check out our review).

Let’s go back to laptops. The pair of 16-inch Windows 11 machines will soon be available in Europe, but we’re still waiting for Huawei to release more concrete pricing information and launch details.

The Huawei MateBook D 16 has an aluminum body that measures 18.4mm thick and weighs 1.7kg (3.75lbs), which isn’t much for a 16-inch laptop. It has a 16:10 IPS LCD resolution (1,920 x 1,200 px, 142 ppi) and promises impressive image quality with 100% sRGB coverage, 1,200: 1 contrast ratio and 300 nits of brightness.

There are two processor choices: the Intel Core i5-12450H or the Core i7-12700H. The former has UHD graphics (48 EU, 1.2GHz), the latter features the more capable Iris Xe graphics (96 EU, 1.4GHz). There is no option for dedicated graphics.

You can configure the laptop with 8 or 16 GB of RAM, the storage space is fixed at 512 GB (NVMe SSD). The laptop has a 60 Wh battery and two USB-C ports that can be used for charging (one also does DisplayPort). Additionally, there’s a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, a USB 2.0, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm combo headphone plus microphone jack. The MateBook D 16 comes with the required 65W power supply and USB cable.

Note: There is an AMD-based version of the MateBook D 16 (Ryzen 4600H), but today’s one was also focused on the Intel-based model.

The Huawei MateBook 16s is another 16 “laptop, although the display on this one has a 3: 2 aspect ratio (resolution 2,520 x 1,680 px). It is still an IPS LCD with 100% sRGB coverage, even better it offers a higher contrast at (1,500: 1) and a factory calibration with average deltaE below 1 (i.e. the maximum possible).

This is also powered by Intel’s 12th generation H-series processors, which means 40W TDP. You can also have it with dual-channel RAM and NVMe SSDs.
