With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series already in the rearview mirror, we can move on to Samsung’s other big launch of the year: the next generation Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip. Reliable informant Ice universe shared some preliminary details about the specs for the upcoming foldouts.
The big news for the Z Flip5 is the larger external display which is said to have a diagonal of 3.4 inches. If true, it will in fact be larger than the Oppo N2 Flip’s 3.26-inch panel and boast a purported 1:1.038 aspect ratio, a nearly perfect square. The internal screen is said to boast narrower bezels and will adopt a new water drop-shaped hinge to help hide its crease.
Moving on to the Galaxy Z Fold5, we get another confirmation that it will keep the 6.2-inch coverage screen of its predecessor. The device will be 0.2mm narrower than its predecessor, but will also use a teardrop hinge like the Z Flip5 to help hide its crease and eliminate gaps when closed. The Fold5 will be thinner than its predecessor coming in at 13.xmm in its folded state compared to the Z Fold4’s 15.8mm. It will also be a lighter device at 254 grams.
Both upcoming foldables will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 chipset for Galaxy and will carry IPX8 waterproofing.
