LG may have withdrawn completely from the smartphone market, but the Korean company has been oddly polite about software support, not wanting to disappoint its customers. It then announced that it would update some models to Android 12 and even Android 13, and the rollouts for Velvet have already begun.

And now a new LG device joins this party. We’re talking about the LG V60 ThinQ in the US, and specifically those units sold by T-Mobile. Numerous reports on Reddit have surfaced from people who own this device and have received the update to Android 12.

LG V60 ThinQ is now getting Android 12 in the US

This is obviously great news, but it’s also pretty odd, since the V60 wasn’t on either of LG’s two lists of eligible devices. It seems the company just wants to surprise us all the time – and we don’t mind at all.

Either way, the update’s change log is short and vague, but you should expect to get all the goodies that Google put into the Android 12 release last year, with some LG paint on top. You also get the March 2022 security patch level, which is obviously out of date, but can we really complain when the company that issued it decided to step out of the smartphone world?

The download size of the update is 1.17GB, so maybe just get it from a fast enough network. As always, the launch is likely to be staged, so it may take a few more days before it reaches all V60 units still in circulation.
