Today Motorola officially unveiled the Moto G Play (2024). This phone will be available in the US at Amazon, Best Buy, and Motorola’s online store on February 8 for just $149.99. You will also later find it on Consumer Cellular, Verizon, Xfinity Mobile, Visible, Cricket, AT&T, UScellular, Cox Mobile, Straight Talk, Walmart Family Mobile, Total by Verizon, and Simple Mobile.
In Canada it arrives first, specifically on January 26, at “select carriers and national retailers” but unfortunately Motorola has not announced a price for Canada, only saying that it varies depending on the carrier.
Ok, let’s see what the new Moto G Play (2024) brings to the table. It has a 6.5-inch HD+ IPS LCD touchscreen with 720×1,600 resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, and Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 on top.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 chipset, which does not support 5G. Added to this are 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of expandable storage. On the back there is only one camera – a real rarity these days. It is a 50MP snapper with LED flash. For selfies, you get an 8MP camera.

The Moto G Play (2024) has a 5,000mAh battery with support for 15W wired charging. To reach that level of charging you’ll need Motorola’s 20W TurboPower charger or better, which isn’t available in the box. Unfortunately the phone runs on Android 13 and the company hasn’t said anything about updates at all.

On the plus side, it’s IP52-rated, which means it’s dust-proof – dust ingress isn’t entirely prevented, but it won’t get in enough to damage it – and it can withstand water dripping vertically on four positions. This equates to 3 mm (0.12″) of rain per minute.
