The OnePlus 12 will have a 50MP main camera with a Sony LYT-808 sensor, Louis Jie, the company’s head of operations in China, has revealed. He released a teaser showing off all three Hasselblad-branded cameras, revealing that the ultra-wide-angle lens will be 48MP, while the 3x telephoto zoom periscope lens will be 64MP. There’s also a 13-channel multispectral sensor to enhance the camera’s setup capabilities.

The setup looks familiar, and that’s because it’s exactly the same as the OnePlus Open and the Oppo Find N3 – the only change is the architecture and interior design.

The information about the main sensor is not new, but now we have further confirmation that OnePlus has decided to play it safe with its new flagship smartphone. We’ve already reviewed the Open and Find N3 (which are essentially the same) and found the camera experience to be solid, both in photos and videos.

We believe the OnePlus 12 will be able to produce slightly better images for one important reason: it will come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Qualcomm has promised AI-enhanced camera features in all phones with the new SoC, including segmentation semantics to improve the vibrancy and detail of images in real life, object erasure for video, and generative AI to extend images beyond the data originally captured.

It is up to the manufacturer to decide how to apply these features to OnePlus 12, which will be launched on December 5 in China, while the global presentation will probably take place on January 24, 2024.
