Oppo has officially confirmed that the Reno9 series will feature a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, though that’s likely reserved for the Pro+ model. It is precisely this model that was discovered by the AnTuTu teams, making benchmarks a couple of days before its official launch.
The phone recorded a total score of 1,094,959. This is pretty much on par with what other phones with this chip have achieved, but there’s a surprise: the unit that performed the test had a lower clocked chipset. Perhaps this was with a power saving mode affecting tracking, perhaps Oppo has found a way to streamline things.
Oppo Reno9 Pro+ AnTuTu Score • Fairly typical Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 AnTuTu scores
The 8+ Gen 1 CPU ran its main core at 3.0 GHz, mid-cores at 2.5 GHz and small cores at 1.8 GHz. A typical example of this chip has its three clusters at 3 respectively 2GHz, 2.8GHz, and 2.0GHz. A typical 8+ Gen 1 phone scores around 1.1 million, like this one. We don’t know if the GPU was clocked lower as well, but the score looks pretty typical for the chip.
Has Oppo found a way to clock down the chip (thereby reducing power consumption and heat generation) without impacting performance? If so, the 8+ Gen 1 will get a second wind in the face of the imminent launch of the 8 Gen 2. The official announcement is this Thursday, so we’ll keep our ears peeled for any such optimizations.
Either way, the test unit has plenty of memory: 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. This is also in line with Oppo’s teasers, which mention LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1.

It’s a bit concerning that the operating system is listed as Android 12. A phone arriving in late 2022, especially a premium model, should arrive with v13 out of the box. The Oppo Reno8 Pro is already running stable ColorOS 13.
