The drop in the number of shipments is attributed to the drop in Chromebook purchases by consumers and education to support going to school from home. Channels notes that North America accounts for 72% of global Chromebook shipments, and the market has seen a 64% decline in Chromebook shipments.
Despite a 62% drop in Chromebooks, Lenovo managed to ship 1.22 million Chromebooks worldwide and took the top spot with 24.9% market share. Looking ahead, the global tablet and PC markets will see increased pressure on the supply chain due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and pandemic-related blockades in China. Demand for Chromebooks is expected to increase in Asia Pacific, where education implementations are expected to begin satisfying price-conscious users. These developing education markets are finalizing digitization plans that should fuel more Chromebook sales.
