Huawei is close to launching the second generation of its flagship TWS gems. Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 is expected to go official this month and will likely be priced at € 200 (the same as the original FreeBuds Pro).

A major update will be the move to the two drivers: with one driver handling the lows and another the mids and highs, the second generation buds will provide a frequency response range from 14Hz to 48,000Hz.

Huawei has reportedly partnered with French audio technology company Devialet to optimize audio. The buds will come with a Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification, promising high quality sound over Bluetooth. There is also something called the Triple Adaptive Equalizer, which will give more precise control over the sound.

Another major upgrade on these gems will be Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), which will reduce noise by 47dB. For comparison, the original FreeBuds Pro advertised cancellation of up to 40dB. To achieve this, the second generation gems will use three microphones and artificial intelligence algorithms.

In terms of battery life, the new design is less efficient and will offer up to 6.5 hours of playback with ANC off, compared to 8 hours. The charging case will make the difference, however, so the total listening time will still be 30 hours.

The new lines are getting basic water resistance with an IP54 rating, which means they’re splash proof, but won’t survive submersion. This is still better durability than the original Pro Gems.

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 will be available in three colors: Blue Silver, Frost Silver and Ceramic White.
