Today, Samsung announced that it will bring Galaxy AI capabilities to its smartwatches with the upcoming release of One UI 6 Watch, its own skin in addition to what we have to assume is Wear OS 5. The latest version of the wearable operating system has been unveiled by Google earlier this month, and now Samsung is letting us know what features its iteration will have.
So, let’s dive right in. Galaxy AI will help the platform provide you with “more comprehensive health insights,” Samsung says, “along with motivational encouragement to help you improve your daily well-being.”
The energy score will help you better understand your daily conditions through a combined analysis of personal health parameters that include average and consistency of sleep time, consistency of wake time, sleep times, brain activity previous day, heart rate during sleep and heart rate variability. It looks just like Garmin’s Body Battery, but it’s nice to see the functionality expand to another platform.
Wellness Tips will provide you with insights, motivational tips and guidance based on the specific goal you are trying to achieve.
In addition to these new features, the One UI 6 Watch update will bring with it improved health algorithms and more advanced tracking tools to “provide more holistic, personalized and actionable insights when combined with artificial intelligence.”
The “sleep AI algorithm” will then be improved “to provide additional insights into your sleep,” while the newly added sleep indicators for Sleep Insights will give you more detailed and accurate analysis of your sleep quality so you can build better habits. Added metrics include sleep motion, sleep latency, heart rate, and sleep breathing rate in addition to previously supported metrics such as snoring hours, blood oxygen level, and sleep cycle.
There will also be new detailed aerobic threshold/anaerobic heart rate threshold parameters for running, functional power threshold parameters for cyclists, and the new training routine combines various exercises for personalized training and easily transitions to the next exercise without stopping .
Finally, the new Race feature compares current and past performance on the same routes for outdoor running and cycling.
Junho Park, vice president and head of the Galaxy Ecosystem product planning team, said:
By expanding the power of Galaxy AI in our ecosystem, we are looking to open up all new possibilities with optimized, connected experiences that give users greater personalization and intelligence. The introduction of Galaxy AI on Galaxy Watch is just the beginning of this process, and we are excited to introduce even more integrations to our Galaxy portfolio very soon.
The One UI 6 Watch update will be available “later this year.” A limited beta program will begin in June. One Watch UI 6 will be available for Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Watch4 Classic, Galaxy Watch5, Galaxy Watch5 Pro, Galaxy Watch6, and Galaxy Watch6 Classic.
