Samsung’s Galaxy Buds lineup began in 2019, as the company recently reminded us ahead of its July 10 Unpacked event, where it’s expected to unveil the Galaxy Buds3. And in those five years, no model has ever used a stem design.

However, that will change next week, as the Galaxy Buds3 are indeed the first Galaxy Buds with stems. This information has already leaked before, and today an image of their retail packaging confirms the move.

Of course, many people will complain about how Samsung is “copying Apple” here, but there are probably hundreds of other companies that have released stem-style true wireless earbuds in recent years. Samsung is just the latest to adopt this design, and maybe that’s for the best?

Aside from the Galaxy Buds+ launched in 2020 (which don’t even have ANC), all of Samsung’s earbuds have had pretty mediocre mic performance, to put it nicely. So here’s hoping that the move to stems, thanks to the fact that this design brings the microphones closer to your mouth, will finally lead to a new pair of Galaxy Buds with stellar mic performance.

Of course, the Buds3 are expected to feature ANC, and while Apple “invented” stemmed earbuds, the stems of Samsung’s upcoming earbuds feature a very angular design that’s very different (perhaps intentionally) from Apple’s.
