Earlier this month, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 underwent grueling “durability tests,” which included scratches, burns and (trying to) bend it, and while it survived and continued to work, there was a certain oddity: there were crackling noises outside when it was folded back and then no longer closed completely.

This is certainly intriguing, which is why Zack himself of the JerryRig Everything The YouTube channel tries again, this time taking apart the same unit that passed that test, trying to find the cause of those outbursts. It’s all on video for your viewing pleasure below.

If you like to see the guts of things, then you definitely liked this one. The dissection begins with the protective layer above the inner display, then continues with the plastic bezel bumpers. The screen sits on a metal plate which makes it slightly easier to remove than if it wasn’t.

A suction cup and razor blade help get into the backs, so it’s time for the insides to be exposed. You can see how much bigger the sensor of the main camera is compared to the ultrawide and how different the hinge is compared to that of the Flip3. Unfortunately, even looking from the inside, it’s unclear what caused the crackling sounds that occurred during the bending test, since everything looks pretty much fine. Finally, the phone is reassembled and – surprise, surprise! – It still works.
