Harman, an audio electronics company owned by Samsung, announced the acquisition of Roon, an audiophile music playback platform best known for its usability across multiple devices in multiple rooms, regardless of brand.

Harman owns audio brands such as AKG, dbx, JBL and Soundcraft and operates globally. It has been part of Samsung since 2017, and we have seen the company’s know-how implemented in Samsung earphones and smartphones.

Dave Rodgers, President of Harman’s Lifestyle Division, commented that the agreement is part of the company’s identity of “creating exceptional audio experiences” for partners and consumers around the world. Enno Vandermeer, CEO of Roon, said joining forces will give Roon the size, resources and reach of a global technology leader.

The brand will maintain its independence to invest in the growth and future of the company. However, it will bring its expertise in data management and consumer engagement capabilities to all Harman partners, including Samsung Mobile.
