Samsung’s Galaxy AI was a big part of today’s Unpacked event: The generative AI service debuts on Galaxy S24 smartphones, and Samsung wants to position it as a major selling point. The company revealed that the new technology is powered by Google Cloud.
The Korean company will be the first partner to deploy Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI via the cloud on its smartphones.
Gemini can perfectly generalize and understand, operate across, and combine different types of information, including text, code, images, and video. Native apps like Notes, Voice Recording, and Keyboard will be able to use these features to improve over time. Gemini Pro will also provide critical features, including data safety, security, privacy and compliance, the press release added.
Janghyun Yoon, Corporate EVP and Head of Software Office of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung, said his team is “excited” that the Galaxy S24 series is the first to feature Gemini Pro.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, added that Samsung developers will be able to use the platform’s “world-class infrastructure, cutting-edge performance and flexibility” to deliver generative AI to Samsung users.

Samsung Galaxy S24 devices will come with Android 14 out of the box, which means there will be Gemini Nano, an LLM (large language model) on device. We already know from Pixel 8 Pro devices that the feature provides intelligent replies to messages, fixes slightly shaky videos and improves night shots.
