Spotify announces the debut of a new feature on both macOS and Windows. It’s called Miniplayer and it’s now only available to Spotify Premium subscribers.
The Miniplayer, as the name suggests, is designed to give you maximum control over your music and podcasts with minimal intrusion. If you want to quickly skip a track or adjust the volume or change the repeat mode, for example, you no longer need to switch to the Spotify window: just use the Miniplayer.
The Miniplayer can transform its shape into a square, a rectangle, or a “stylish bar”, as seen above. It supports both music and podcasts, and Spotify says it “offers a balanced experience, catering equally to both video and music content.” Delete video podcasts in picture-in-picture mode with controls and you can change the size of the video player.
If you click on the artist name, song name, or album art, you’ll open the main Spotify app. You can find the Miniplayer in the bottom right corner of the Spotify desktop app, between the volume and full screen buttons.
The Miniplayer floats on top of other applications so it doesn’t disrupt your workflow as much as switching windows would, and it can be opened or closed without interrupting the listening experience since it doesn’t replace Spotify’s main window.
