The Magic Eraser feature Google introduced with the Pixel 6 lets you remove subjects from the background in your photos, and a video that has surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) shows that Google has been developing a version of Magic Eraser for audio, aptly named Audio Magic Eraser.
The short clip hints that the Audio Magic Eraser will debut with the Pixel 8 series and, like the Magic Eraser, will be accessible through the Google Photos app, allowing you to remove background noise from video.
The editor will have a slider that allows you to choose how much background sound you want to filter out. It will identify at least three types of sounds: “Noise”, “People” and “Music”.
The video also shows the Google Pixel 8 Pro in a new blue color. You can watch the clip below to see Audio Magic Eraser in action.
The Magic Eraser was initially only available for select Pixel smartphones, but a few months ago Google made it available for all Pixel users. It’s also now available to non-Pixel and iOS users via the Google Photos app, as long as they have a Google One membership. The Audio Magic Eraser will apparently be exclusive to the Pixel 8 series, and whether or not it will make it to other Pixel and non-Pixel devices remains to be seen.
