The British company Bullitt, responsible for producing rugged phones under the Caterpillar (CAT) and Motorola Defy brands, failed to restructure financially and had to close down. Former employees posted on LinkedIn say the company is unable to service its debt and everyone is currently looking for new jobs.

Second WinFutureBullitt’s plans included divesting the hardware division to a creditor-backed organization and focusing on the development of satellite communications devices.

British phone manufacturer Bullitt owned the commercial rights to build and distribute rugged phones bearing the Cat and Motorola logos, as well as several Land Rover-branded phones. The company revealed at MWC 2023 that it is working on its own solution for satellite connectivity, developed together with Mediatek.

Versatile and rugged smartphones have been an attractive offering for people who need a rugged yet affordable device. Typical CAT owners were not willing to spend too much on a Samsung XCover series but wanted to stay away from Chinese brands like Ulefone, Blackview and Oukitel.
