Yesterday the new 13-inch iPad Pro underwent a grueling durability test that included scratches, burns, and bends, and today we have the next logical step: a teardown video.
This time it is provided by Phone repair guru YouTube channel, and if you’ve always wondered what’s inside the thinnest device (not just the thinnest tablet) Apple has never done, well, look no further.
This tablet is barely thicker than its USB-C port, which is an engineering feat in itself, though let’s not forget that the port may be to blame for the iPad’s “performance” in the aforementioned bending test. Then again, it’s very easily replaceable, so it has what it takes.
Inside, the entire logic board is positioned in the center, surrounded by two battery packs, with two speakers at either end. The internal design is much simpler than you might imagine, Apple has simply made sure that there is nothing else between the batteries, screen and back plate.
The new position of the front camera assembly is very easy to see, it now moves to the longer side of the frame to be useful when holding the device in landscape mode. Overall the internals are quite similar to the latest iPad Pro.
The batteries come with tabs for easy removal, and there’s a copper Apple logo buried deep inside the tablet, and that logo is actually a heat sink.
