Mobile-first social networks are surprisingly poor at adopting new form factors: for example, it wasn’t until last August that Instagram got support for foldable phones. TikTok hasn’t been a great experience with foldables either, at least until now.
With the latest update to its app, TikTok looks and works better on foldable devices and tablets. The company calls it a “comprehensive update” and lists the following highlights:
- Clear video feed: Enjoy a more refined video feed that displays content with greater clarity.
- Simplified navigation bars: Easily navigate through TikTok with elegant navigation bars at the top and bottom of the screen for easy access to your favorite features and tabs.
- Support for use horizontally or vertically: No matter how you hold your device, TikTok will now work in landscape or portrait orientation.
The app’s focus remains on vertical video, but at least it’s now usable in landscape mode, which is the default for foldable devices and landscape tablets. You can always turn them 90°, of course.
