A few days ago Valve announced that it has eliminated a major obstacle in the production of Steam Deck and that it will be able to meet demand faster than expected. Today the company announced that it will launch its handheld console in new regions.
Fans in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong will soon be able to purchase a Steam Deck. This launch is in partnership with Komodo, Valve’s authorized reseller for those regions.
The site for Japan is already active: you can check it here. The base 64GB eMMC model starts at 59,800 JPY, the 256GB NVMe SSD model costs 79,800 JPY, and the highest 512GB model is 99,800 JPY. Here are the starting prices for the other regions: KRW 589,000 for South Korea, NT $ 13,380 for Taiwan and HK $ 3,288 for Hong Kong.
Valve notes that pre-order queues in new regions are separate from those in current regions, so this launch doesn’t mean your Steam Deck delivery will be delayed.
Valve is quite daring in trying to push itself into Japan, home of Nintendo and Sony, two big names in handheld consoles. Well, mostly Nintendo these days. However, home console games are much more popular in the country than PC games, which is what Steam Deck offers.
That’s why the company will set up a large booth at the Tokyo Game Show to introduce the Steam Deck to the players in attendance.
