After Oppo and OnePlus stopped sales in Germany last summer following a lawsuit filed by Nokia, vivo is now closing its online store as well. In April, a German court ruled in Nokia’s favor because vivo allegedly infringed a Nokia patent relating to WLAN connections in vivo’s smartphones. The same reason why Oppo and OnePlus had to temporarily withdraw from the German market.
Without much notice, vivo’s website is now shut down and German consumers can no longer buy a vivo smartphone in the country. The German branch now greets you with a short statement that vivo products are currently unavailable, but existing vivo smartphone owners will continue to receive customer service and software updates.
Specifically, the patent lawsuit comes from Nokia’s Finnish subsidiary related to the equipment supplier and not from HMD Global, which now runs Nokia’s smartphone business.
