They’re not glamorous, but they’re set to be one of the best-selling phones of 2024: Samsung’s Galaxy A15, A15 5G, and A25 arrived earlier this week, and they’re three variations on the same theme. This theme is a 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, a 50MP main camera, and a 5,000mAh battery with 25W wired charging.
The Samsung Galaxy A25 is the leader of the pack. It has a 120Hz display, OIS for the main camera and a better 8MP ultra wide, as well as stereo speakers. And it’s powered by the Exynos 1280 chipset. To put things in perspective, here’s the A25 compared to the A34, one of this year’s most popular mid-range models. The A34 is certainly better, with features like IP67 protection, but the A25 comes surprisingly close.
Samsung Galaxy A25 and A15/A15 5G cameras
Samsung only launched the new trio in Vietnam, so these are the prices we have to work with. The Galaxy A25 sells for VND6,600,000, while the A34 had a recommended price of VND8,500,000. Of course the price of the A34 has dropped since it was launched, but it’s still around 30% more expensive than the A25 in terms of RRP.
The Samsung Galaxy A15 5G scales things back: 90Hz refresh rate for the display, no OIS for the main camera and 5MP sensor for ultra wide, and has just one speaker. The most crucial downgrade is the Dimensity 6100+ chipset. Despite the name, this is just a heated Dimensity 810.
6.5” FHD+ Super AMOLED display – 120 Hz for the A25, 90 Hz for the other two
It’s not a bad chip and the Galaxy A15 5G isn’t a bad phone, but this is a case of blatant price pegging or Samsung really missing the mark. The A15 5G is priced at VND6,300,000, a discount of just 5% compared to the A25.
One more topic to cover before moving on to the vote. The Samsung Galaxy A15 is exactly the same phone as the A15 5G aside from the switch to the Helio G99 chipset, which limits it to 4G connectivity. It comes with a much better discount, it is VND 5,000,000 or about 25% less than the A25. How much is 5G really worth?
Ok, time to vote. First of all, the Galaxy A25: would this be the success or has Samsung misinterpreted the demands of the entry-level market?
Next up, the Galaxy A15 5G: a total disaster or is there promise in this device?
Finally the Galaxy A15, the 4G one. The one to have if you can’t afford the A25 or even a dud?
