Xiaomi and its Android interface MIUI have been synonymous since 2010. MIUI now boasts a global user base of over 564 million monthly active users and the latest version released is MIUI 14 announced last December. It seems that Xiaomi is looking for a change with the next iteration of its customized interface as a reliable informant Digital chat station is confident that Xiaomi will replace MIUI with a brand new MiOS.

Xiaomi MiOS aims to replace MIUI

It remains to be seen whether MiOS will simply be another Android UI overlay like MIUI or whether Xiaomi is actually developing a new mobile operating system. Previous rumors suggest that Xiaomi is looking to follow in Huawei’s footsteps by launching its own operating system based on Android Open Source Project (AOSP) which will be available on its smartphones, tablets, wearables and even Xiaomi’s electric vehicles.

Xiaomi has already registered the MiOS name and mios.cn domain in China, and there have been several reports of a MiOS developer beta in Chinese media.
