Sony has revealed that it plans to close several stores for older PlayStation platforms by the end of the year.
The company officially announced after days of rumors that the PlayStation Store will no longer support PlayStation 3, PS Vita and PSP. The three platforms will be abandoned in the summer.
According to an official press release released by Sony, the PS3 and PS Vita stores will close on August 27, while the PSP store will no longer operate from July 2.
Players who have previously purchased content will still be able to access the content from their download lists on individual consoles. Cross-buy cross-platform purchases will still be possible. However, new purchases will be impossible from the summer dates listed above.
Starting this summer, any remaining balance in a user’s PSN wallet will only work with PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 purchases. Those who do not have the latest systems or simply want their wallet balance back can arrange refunds via the PlayStation website.
