The Splitgate FPS has grown in popularity and 10 million players have experienced the game’s open beta. But developer 1047 Games has now confirmed that the game will remain in an open beta state for “the foreseeable future”.
This information is provided courtesy of a developer press release. The lag is basically a result of the game’s growing popularity and they have to add more scaling solutions to the game rather than just relying on additional servers.
As company CEO and co-founder Ian Proulx said in the release, “By examining the issues facing the scalability of the game’s backend, the process includes more than just managing server capacity. We focus on keeping the game stable for fans and on iterating the game’s concurrent capability to minimize player waiting times. “
Continuing, he said: “We want to do it right and we want to be prepared for a large scale upon official launch, while continuing to improve the beta with frequent updates, additional features and improvements to server capacity.”
Where do the current players go? While we don’t know when the beta will end, we do know that the current Battle Pass will end on Tuesday, August 24th. Hence, time is running out for players hoping to get all available items.
Speaking of ticks, the developers have anticipated that we may get more information about Splitgate at Gamescom on August 25th. Perhaps then we will have a better idea of when this title (which entered Early Access in 2019) will be fully released. Until then, however, players can expect content updates for this game at least until the end of this year.
