For Ninja Turtles fans, the best video games ever created were the arcade titles released in 1989 and 1991 (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and its sequel Turtles In Time). Now, a new game titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge coming to PC and consoles will be the spiritual successor to those fan-favorite games.
This new side scrolling fighting game is courtesy of publisher Dotemu and developer Tribute Games. In addition to the game’s adorable retro pixel art style, reminiscent of the classic 1987 Turtle design, players can’t wait to hear the iconic TMNT theme song sung by Mike Patton from Faith No More.
We don’t know much about the plot yet, except that henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady are working hard to collect “gizmos” to help Krang and Shredder in their dreams of world domination. But we do know that the four playable turtles will have “shocking new abilities built on the foundation of classic brawl mechanics” according to the game’s recent press release.
However, in the end, it looks like this game is in good hands. Developer Dotemu is perhaps best known for bringing players the awesome Streets of Rage 4. Meanwhile, some of Tribute Games’ talents are responsible for bringing us Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, a beloved title that was recently re-released to near universal acclamation.
With its pixel art design and arcade roots, Shredder’s Revenge is sure to be a hit among retro gamers. But as a family-friendly casual and cooperative brawl, it looks like this title could be a hit for the younger generation as well.
No release date has been announced, but you can add Shredder’s Revenge to your wishlist on Steam now.
