The Sims 4 just received a Neighborhood Stories update that profoundly changes the gameplay experience. With this update, your Sims can now live and even die on their own without player intervention.
This information is provided to us courtesy of Eurogamer. Initially, the feature rolled out gradually in November, but players had to accept the change. With the new update, the default is full autonomy for families not active in the game, but customization options are available if you want to take more direct control.
What is meant in this case by “complete autonomy”? In short, characters in your inactive families can change jobs, have children, and move to another home. In some cases, they may even end up dying in a freak accident!
Don’t you want those Sims to die? Don’t worry – the game’s customization options mean you can turn off some Neighborhood Stories options for these otherwise self-contained families, including turning off the accidental death switch. If you really want to be a control freak for your virtual world, there are many micromanagement options available. However, you can also just turn this feature off and play as you always have.
How will you know what your weird neighbors have been up to? After the update, you can use any inbox to check the different neighborhood stories. You might be surprised at how caught up in the tangle of their lives you get!
