Today, Ubisoft had a world premiere live stream with details on their next game. That game is Tom Clancy’s XDefiant and we have a breakdown of all the details revealed today.
What kind of game is XDefiant?
XDefiant is designed as a free-to-play first person shooter. Players can choose from different factions and each faction has Defiant that look similar to the legends in Apex: Legends. During the presentation, Ubisoft reps said that the game is a bit like a combination of a gunfight and a mosh pit, and they aim to create something a little less serious than other Tom Clancy titles.
Who are the factions?
There are several factions in the game that have their own special equipment, passive abilities, and ultra abilities. And these factions correspond to different types of character classes.
You can play as Wolves from Ghost Recon. This is a Tank class with more health and better shield skills.
Another faction is The Cleaners from The Division. They are fire-based fighters that swing with a high DPS. You can also play as the Division Outcasts and they focus on looking after the players.
Finally, you can play as Echelon from Splinter Cell, and this faction specializes in hiding information from the enemy and reporting information back to their teammates.
What kind of modes are there in XDefiant?
The final title may have more game modes, but the developers today only mentioned five. These modes are Domination, Gang Leader and Charge (intended for arena maps) and Escort and Zone Control (intended for more linear maps).
A growing community
A big theme during today’s presentation was that Ubisoft wants XDefiant to be a game for both competitive and casual players. It’s easy to jump into a map on your own, and the ability to change your gear with each respawn helps you adapt to different challenges.
They also hope to cultivate a good relationship with the gaming community and will seek input on maps, modes, factions and Defiants. But to provide the feedback in time, you will need to help them test the game.

How can I play XDefiant early?
In addition to giving us information about XDefiant, the presentation encouraged players to register for the chance to play a closed beta test of the game. To do this, players need to register on this website.
There will likely be subsequent tests focusing on a console version of this game, but the first test will be on August 5th for PC gamers. That test will contain 10 maps (seven arena maps and three linear maps) and the five game modes mentioned above.
The final version of the game will likely launch in 2022 at the earliest.
Let us know in the comments: will you sign up for the XDefiant closed test because you are excited? Or does it look too much like a copy of games like Apex: Legends or Valorant? We want to hear your thoughts!
